Market Event in Singapore

Hello, I am Juveina Sim, ITA Certified Teacher, and founder of Jing Creations SG, from Singapore.

On 11-12 May 2024, I attended Doujin Market event and shared a booth there with my partner under our shared brand name Just Kidding!

Doujin Market (or Doujima) is Singapore’s largest pop-culture art convention and exhibition. This year, Doujima featured more than 500 art, crafts, and illustration booths by over 600 talented artists, designers and illustrators from 15 different countries around the world.

We are at F29.

Amidst this electrifying celebratory gathering of Singapore’s doujin culture, I took the opportunity to share about the traditional craft of tsumami zaiku with visitors who dropped by my booth.

I brought some new stuff to Doujima.

Hanami Dango and Hana Dango (花見団子と花団子)

Previously I had written about my chirimen Hanami Dango hairclips in the Doujinfes Kallang post.

For Doujima, I brought many new flavors - Hana Dango.

They are Matcha, Green Tea, Strawberry Daifuku, Sakura, Taro, Purple Sweet Potato, Ramune, Lemon. I used chirimen fabric from my stash for the Dango colours, and 10mm square thin silk cloth to make maru-tsumami and ken-tsumami for the toppings.

It was a bit challenging at first because I am not used to cloth of this size, but I was able to push myself on with memories of Mr Rihou’s words of encouragement during the International Tsumami Zaiku Association (ITA) Autumn event in Japan last year.

For flavours that are more intense, I made more ken-tsumami petals, so Matcha and Lemon flavors are the strongest taste. I actually had a lot of fun deciding the designs of the toppings. The Hana Dango turned out very pretty and cute which makes me very happy!

I also brought a new kanzashi to Doujima. Here is a group photo of my works before some of them went to their new homes.

I am very glad to have participated in Doujima 2024. Anime events in Singapore are full of interesting things to see and do. Sometimes there are stage performances, workshops, cosplay competitions etc. Artist alleys also have a huge variety of things to see and buy.

At this booth at Doujima, you can buy cosplay prints and merchandise, hair scrunchies, embroidery patches, fanart stickers, and charms and standees, play a lucky draw box game, get tarot readings, etc.

It is so much fun!

If you are in Singapore, why not attend an anime event if you can? Who knows? You might see a booth sharing and promoting Tsumami Zaiku traditional techniques.

Come say Hi then.
